Rehearsal

This morning I watched my neighbor step out onto her muddy front lawn dressed to the nines. With a look of dread, she took a few brisk strides, stumbled…then fell. Without a pause, she got back up, brushed herself off, then proceeded to do it again - walk, stumble, fall, arise. She repeated this ritual numerous times until a dark smile found her lips.

When I asked her what she was doing, her eyes gleamed with a blend of sadness and triumph.

“I’m just rehearsing for another day on this earth.”
